Volant ran throughout much of the California campaign, leaving the campaign at times and returning when needed. He was serious and dedicated to his craft, working hard to hone his skills. He was known for his hand-to-hand skills; twice he won fights against other monks in formal combat, each time with a single blow. His hands were in fact enchanted weapons, because he once dipped them in a pool that would either confer enchantment on them or dissolve them. They didn't dissolve.

Later in his career Volant took over a monastery and devoted it to teaching combat skills. He spent much time there, but was often lured back to join the group on adventures.
