Songs by Barbara

The lyrical stylings of the campaign's musical biographer

Over the years Barbara Hunt has re-written the lyrics to many songs, drawing on the events of the campaign for inspiration. The California group had a number of entertaining evenings listening to Barbara sing these while she played the guitar. On occasion, and especially at Christmas, we would all join in for an Elcea sing-along. Some of my favorites among her many creations are listed below.

Hobbits We Have Heard on High
(sung to the tune of "Angels We Have Heard on High")

1) Hobbits we have heard on high, squeaking shrilly down the hall.
All adventurers cringe and sigh, and wish to fling them at the wall!
(Chorus):
O......h, hobbit thieves! Why are you so cunning?
O......h, hobbit thieves! What would we e'er do without you?
2) Kyryl is our hobbit queen, newly come from hobbit hill.
Bodo is her mentor thief, casting oft' his Power Word Kill!
(Chorus)
3) Bodo with his heart of gold has saved us all from horrid fate.
Honest, daring, brave, and bold - we all think that Bodo's great!
(Chorus)

Away from the Danger
(sung to the tune of "Away in a Manger")

Away from the danger, no treasure's been found.
What's worse, we're unbalanced but mentally sound.
With no leader among us we argue all day.
So, bud, if you're sane, from this group stay away!

O Holy Knight
(sung to the tune of "O Holy Night")

O holy knight, with armor brightly shining
A paladin with a warhorse named Truth.
He is so lawful, follower of Eru -
And by his side a cleric of Beniceem.
A helm, shield, spear, all used for water breathing,
A magic javelin which throws a lightning bolt.
"Let's take a VOTE!" Oh, hear our leader's request.
"Oh Paladin of mine, Stargoth!" says Samrith.
Oh Knight, sublime, O holy Knight, O Knight sublime.

Salvage in the Sand
(sung to the tune of "Dancing in the Street"

When we first appeared on the Wave Skipper
For our salvage in the sand
The captain and crew knew just what to do
To reach our salvage in the sand.
Poor Savannah, who didn't feel quite right,
And Eleora, too!
All they needed was the seashore,
Sweet seashore!
Where the boat wouldn't rock anymore.
No one else was sick and Big Toes brought his pick
For our salvage in the sand.

It doesn't matter if you're scared
Just as long as you are there.
So come on everyone, make a stab
Everywhere around the crab
There'll be salvage-
Salvage in the sand!

We got to a ledge that was on the edge
Of our salvage in the sand.
It was awhile 'til high tide
When we had to ride
From our salvage in the sand.
Then we sawwwww it - with the light shining through
Then came our test!
All we needed was triumph, sweet triumph,
To get that treasure for our band.
It was an invitation, our initiation,
This salvage in the sand.

It doesn't matter if you're scared
Just as long as you are there.
So come on everyone, make a stab
Everywhere around the crab
There'll be salvage-
Salvage in the sand!

It came out of a crack, it was ten feet of clack
That creature in the sand.
Savannah missled that crab
While Christa gave a stab
And killed that creature in the sand.
It was screeeeming - it didn't stand a chance!
And it made such good eatin'!
All we found was some old gold, sweet gold,
And a little of this and of that.
When the long boat hit the shore we didn't stay anymore
We took our salvage in the sand.

It doesn't matter if you're scared
Just as long as you are there.
So come on everyone, make a stab
Everywhere around the crab
There'll be salvage-
Salvage in the sand!

Dire Wolves
(sung to the tune of "Hound Dog")

(Chorus:)
They ain't nothing but dire wolves
Attackin' all the time.
They ain't nothin' but bad wolves
Bitin' all the time.
They almost killed a Bloodhawk and they
Ain't no friends of mine!

Savannah is a wizard, Savannah don't you cry!
You were throwing magic missles
When carnage hit your eye -
You had never seen a bloodbath
And could only say, "Oh my!"

(Chorus:)

Christa fought her own wolf,
It looked her in the eye
Trying for a hamstring,
It bit her on the thigh.
She almost chopped its head off,
And then she said, "Good bye!"

(Chorus:)

There goes Big Toes
Climbing up a tree
Getting ready
For a killing spree.
He might have missed the first one
But he killed eventually!

(Chorus:)

Ranger Ruth
Getting out her bow -
A wolf's attackin'
And Ruth is aiming low.
It only took two arrows and
She got herself a coat!

(Chorus:)

Then there's Madigan
Standing in a tree.
Throwing pins and
Hittin' wolves with glee!
She didn't miss once,
Just you ask Pyri!

(Chorus:)

And there goes Pyri
Fallin' to the ground.
She did some damage
Before it took her down.
And while she was unconcious
Something hit her on the crown!

(Chorus:)

And Eleora,
She heard the battle call.
She was right there
When Pyri began to fall.
She got out her components and
Then she healed us all!

(Chorus:)

There stood Dengus,
Ready for a fight.
Got his cudgel
As a wolf gave him a bite.
He gave a really big whack and
Ended that wolf's life!

(Chorus:)

She is a fighter,
Her name is Acatel.
When she got started
She gave those big wolves hell!
Their thirst for blood she
Finally did quell!

(Chorus:)

Oh Savannah!
(sung to the tune of "Oh, Susanna")

She came from Carolina with a wand upon her knee
She wound up with the Bloodhawks and she practiced wizardry.

Chorus:
Oh, Savannah, now don't you say, "Oh my!"
Just shoot those magic missles and the icky things will die!

She rides around the countryside with parasol held high
Adventuring and casting spells when trouble passes by!

Chorus:

He came riding on a warhorse and his smile was ear to ear -
Savannah almost fainted then whenever Jed was near!

His horse's name was Virtue and he won Savannah's heart -
She hoped that she and Jeddian soon nevermore would part!

Chorus:
